Another epic winter for REMO the Beetle
Posted on February 03 2016
Originally registered in Rome, REMO is without a doubt Cool Flo’s favourite rallying VW Beetle. Little did this bug know that when it left the production line in ’63 that it would be racing in rallies over 50 years later.
REMO and drivers Lorenzo Bosi and Giovanni Delporto have just completed another epic Winter Marathon. The event covers over 400 kilometers through the most beautiful streets of Trentino Alto Adige and the most fascinating Dolomite passes.
Lorenzo recently sent us the following race report…
It was a very hard race this year with very tight deadlines. REMO’s new 1776cc engine was severely put to the test on some of the hill climbs, with several crews having problems and not able to finish the race at all.
Three other VW beetles started the rally alongside ours but we're pleased to report that REMO was the fastest of them all.
The other three beetles in the competition made it to the finish line but two of them had been in accidents - one of them was hit by another racer and the other broke its suspension.
We didn’t encounter snow on the way this year which was a bonus, but there were still plenty of different stretches of road with dangerous ice patches that caused many accidents among competitors.
The REMO team are very satisfied with the outcome compared to last year’s challenge managing to halve the stage times. And we’re already confident of better placings for 2017. After this year’s experience we have some finer details to work on to ensure we achieve bigger and better things.
REMO came 49th out of 96 but finished 10th in the 1962-1965 category. A sterling effort from one very cool Italian racer and even cooler crew.
Cool Flo is proud too sponsor REMO. You can show support and find out more about the REMO team via their Facebook Page. And if you like the look of the Authentic Rides Cool Flo hoodies Lorenzo and Giovanni are wearing above you can currently snap your own up in our Winter Sale. The ’89 refers to our founding year but also matches REMO’s race number too.
